First of all, I’ve chosen to include St Georges Cross in my personal vision of England because this flag is representative of the country all around the world. As for the Rose it’s the emblem of England.

William Turner is a famous English painter because he was one of the first who played with light in his painting. That’s why I considered him as a symbol for impressionism.

In order to represent the English literature, I chose two famous writers: Shakespeare and Agatha Christie.

Sherlock Holmes, created by Arthur Conan Doyle, embodies the typical dandy and English manners. 

The cup of tea is a perfect stereotype of English habits: tea time.

As regards Alfred Hitchcock, he stands for the cinema and especially horror movies.

The Rolling Stones and the Beatles personify English rock.

The pound sterling refers to the power of England in the field of finance and notably the business area, “the city”, in London which is a major city in the world.

Similarly, the international reputation of The BBC shows the importance of the country in the information field.

The Prestigious Universities in England are represented by Oxford and Cambridge.

So as to symbolize the Windsor dynasty and the royal power, I’ve included Queen Elisabeth II and Queen Victoria.

James Watt refers to the emergence of the first industrialization during the 18th century in England and to his invention, the steam engine.

Another scientist revolutionized the world with his discover in the 19th century: Charles Darwin and his theory on the origin of species. Those scientists show how much England was powerful at that time.

Concerning Churchill, he is an icon of England because he participated to the victory of the Allies against a common enemy: Nazism during the Second World War.

Eventually, the cricket and Liverpool football club refer to the two national sports.
